Happy 5th Birthday, Lovebug!

My darling Lovebug,

Yesterday you turned FIVE. Sometimes, like when you run up and give me a hug at the end of the school day, you still feel like my baby boy. Other times, as I watch you build complicated Lego contraptions and help your brother climb up the stairs, I fall in love with this boy you're becoming. It's an amazing transition.

Right now, you are in love with Legos and Mario Kart on the Wii. You could play either one for hours and hours. You like cars and trains, but your main interest in them is setting up the roadways and tracks for them. This year you started taking a sports class, which you really enjoy. You try all the new skills with a lot of enthusiasm and love to cheer your friends on.

The way you talk to your brother in the morning is so sweet - you take such good care of him that Mommy sometimes gets to take a shower, even. He wants to do and say everything that you do - you have so much patience with him, even when he's driving you crazy. But your sister is definitely your best friend - you guys practically have your own language of silliness. I love how every time we went to the drug store at Christmas time, you found something that your sister would like. You are such an amazing brother.

This year  you've gone from never drawing or writing anything to writing your full name and drawing pictures with some details. You've tried rides that made you nervous. You've gotten over your dislike of the bathtub. You've survived a broken arm. You've had to be really brave and persistent and that makes me so proud of you.

You have such a vivid imagination, which is such a blessing when you're building and not so great when you're worried about something. You are so friendly and affectionate, yet still able to play by yourself and complete tasks independently. You want to be an Imagineer, but not for Disney; you want to create PBS Kids World. And you want your 3 best friends from preschool to work with you as imagineers, while your siblings perform in Kids World shows. That's a pretty amazing plan for a 5 year old.

I am so glad I get to be your mom. I love you so much.

    Love,
  Mommy

I love the way you write these for our families birthdays. I really hope you save all of them and keep them in printed form for our family scrapbook, so we can share them with our kids later in life. I love you- you are an awesome mommy!

As always, I admire how you put into words the love you have for your kids through these letters. Such a great idea, Jen! Ditto to what Justin said.
