I'm Baaa-aaack!

So yeah.

I'm sorry I abandoned you, internet.

My phone died as we prepared to leave on a 2 week long trip. We drove to Kissimmee, Florida.  We stopped in Savannah. We went to Disney. And everyone but my mother and I got sick. Really, really sick.

It started with Hugmonkey on the way down. Our entire first week of vacation was spent with everyone on painkillers and water. Full recovery didn't happen until 3 days before we were supposed to leave. It made writing for I See Kissimmee a much bigger strain than I'd expected. I mean, travel articles aren't usually about trips to the local Wal-Mart to buy ibuprofen. Though if you'd like to know which Wal-Mart is the best in the Kissimmee area, I can give you recommendations.

We spent 5 days at the parks, with my parents graciously watching Hugmonkey for 4 of them. Because I don't think theme parks are the best place for toddlers. There, I said it.

I will say that Disney is definitely the best park for toddlers. But toddlers do not care about characters, even if their parents think they do. And Hugmonkey had several meltdowns when he was too little to go on certain rides. Plus, if you only have limited time - and are unsure when/if you're going back and are not actually staying on the property - days at the Parks can be LOOOONNGGG. Even after they were healthy, Ironflower and Lovebug fell asleep in the car almost every night as we drove the 10 minutes back to our vacation house. Hugmonkey had one amazing day (except for the ride meltdowns, which were totally understandable) there and I think that was best. Especially for the rest of us.

I felt guilty when I thought it might be our one and only trip to Disney World.

But it won't be. Hot Guy - my anti-advertising, metal loving husband - fell in love with the whole Disney vacation experience. As did I. Though I don't know if I'll be able to get him to go on "It's A Small World" again. I don't know whether it was the attractiveness, the cleanliness, the friendliness of every single person who works there or the multitude of fun experiences, but it's definitely become our new happy place. Although you will never catch me there when it's crowded. Because I totally thought it was crowded, even though this was value season and everyone kept telling me it wasn't. Also? All those websites that tell you which days to go to which parks to avoid crowds are bullshit. Weekends at all the parks suck, Wednesdays are best everywhere. At least during value season.

Which I recommend, especially if you are cheap and hate people like I do.

Sounds like it was quite an adventure!! I am so jealous that your hubby fell in love with the whole Disney experience... I used to work there (waayy b4 baby) and the hubs and I could go for free and never once could I convince him to~ Sigh~ Although, he did say he would go for our daughters first trip when she is a little older.....

@DIAPERS in the DESERT Oh, it was. My husband thought he wouldn't like it either. You've just got to get him there. I'm jealous that you've worked there!

@Lisa R. Apparently I'm not a devoted blogger. :) But I'm very glad to be back. Online, anyway.

I read "Game of Thrones" between the time you last posted and this post! That shows you how long it has been, although that book was awesome so I read it reasonably fast. Thanks for the recommendation, can't wait for the show to start.

I lurve Disney World... But you knew that. :-D

Now, quick! Grab your receipts and don't let go of them! Hotel/rental, food, tickets, transportation are all tax deductible for you if you review everything for a site in which you get paid (i.e. advertising, pay-per-view, flat rate for article). You can't claim your husband's and kids meals or anything, but your portion you can. I also don't think that booze counts unless you're reviewing it- but if you do review the drinks (some are excellent), keep the receipts and ask your tax preparer.

@KittyCatI'm sorry. I wish I could send you on one!

@Jeff VincentI'm a slacker, what can I say? But I'm glad you enjoyed the book. Are you going to read the others?

@WordVixenClearly just reading your site and using your links wasn't enough for my research - I didn't even think to keep my receipts. I am so not good at being a grown-up.

Aw, Jen, I'm so sorry! I know, I totally suck with my sites since I mostly write them for keywords. I keep meaning to get around to a basic "planning your first Disney World Vacation" post just so I can send my friends to it. I just never do it!

BTW, if you used a bank card, checks, or credit card, I think the statements count as receipts for tax purposes. Not 100% positive, though. I'm the exact reverse at being a bad grown up- I keep the receipts but then don't do the work that would make the receipts actually usable for deduction. Oy. (I have over 2000 pictures to put up on my Disney blogs too- I take 100 pictures every trip, and only like 50 are actual souvenir pics)

we too fell in love w/ Disney even though we hate the overrated stuff usually. it does seem like another place. we decided last time we went that Disney is just so good at playing on your imagination. and it makes you feel like a kid again...

too bad everyone was sick, but now you can have the excuse to go back. we went back at nearly six year intervals. it was kind of neat to see the kids enjoy the World at such different stages of life. (for what it's worth, I think the best trip was when kids were 9 and 6)
