A Public Service Announcement

I know some of you hate political posts. Please read this one anyway.

I've been tempted to write another post about Sarah Palin and her ignorance. I've been tempted to write a post about my loss of respect for McCain, between his disrespect of Obama at the debates and his extremely negative campaign ads. I've been tempted to write about the economy. I've been tempted to write about my disappointment in Congress.

But what good would it do? Researching the post would probably make me more angry. Many of you would agree with me - which is awesome, of course - and those that don't would probably skip the post. So instead I've got a favor to ask.

We've all gotten political emails that shock us. We're all watching negative campaign ads. We're all (I hope) seeing debates (or debate soundbytes) where candidates stretch the truth. And that scares me. Because some of us are believing things that aren't true (Obama is a Muslim ? Sarah Palin is middle class?). So all I ask is this, when you see an ad/get an email/hear something shocking, check it out with a neutral party. There are websites devoted to explaining - without bias - where the candidates actually stand on the issue.

Amen, sista! I'm proud to say I have two of those sites bookmarked and have actually used them.

Wow! I wish we had those here in Canada (Now that I've said this, someone will probably point me to the direction of them and say 'look Dumba$$', but... yeah)

That's awesome stuff.

hey, that's really good. I will have to pass that on to others as well. I like what you said at the end "Don't vote out of fear, vote because of your knowledge." I don't have a lot of knowledge, but I just cannot convince myself to vote for someone just because I don't like the other guy/party/ideal/etc either. I don't like either of them and am considering what voting for a third party does (ie-wasted vote)

I'm voting for Colbert. So, in my case, facts would be a distraction. :-)

Dory - I just love them.

Thalia's Child - They should have them for every country!

Silken - It's so hard to say what a third party vote does - but I see your point.

Wordvixen - Teehee. If Jon Stewart would run,
I'd vote for him.

Catootes - Thank you!

Merry - I love your "no names/parties" idea. Just a list of each candidate's policies and stances!

Jess- Teehee.

I agree with you. Relying on campaign ads or debates is not enough to get all the facts.

It seems everyone is so emotional about their candidate that they don't vote based on logic. It takes a great deal of research in order to make an informed decision.

Unfortunately both sides feel the need to run attack ads and sling mud. It's not necessary. I wish they could stick to their records and state their intentions and cut all the crap.

Merry makes a terrific point. The President does not have absolute power. We really do have to be careful who we vote for in ALL elections including the house and the senate.
