Why Am I Even Thinking About This?

I have no style. I won't even dignify my the clothing I've been wearing for the past few years by calling it "stay-at-home mom" style. Style implies choice. Going by what's clean and what still fits is not making a choice.

It's not like I used to be super-fashionable or anything. But I was aware of trends, aware of what looked good on me and had a certain look. Friends would say, "I saw this blouse at such and such and it's so you! You have to go check it out." I don't think anyone would say that to me today, unless they saw v-necked solid color t-shirts on sale somewhere.

It's not just that I'm pregnant, either. This has been going on far longer than that - maybe since I was pregnant with Ironflower. Even though I lost most of the weight that time around, my body had changed. And my life certainly had. Comfort began to take on a much bigger role and spending money on clothes for myself made me feel guilty when I had a closet full of clothes that would fit me if I ever started eating sensibly again. Which I swear I'm doing after this one is baked.

But even supposing I do manage to lose all this weight (meaning the baby weight and the chocolate weight I'd gained since we moved), I still won't know what the hell to wear. Before, I had work clothes (casual with an edge), club clothes (Black, short and/or sparkly) and sweats. Since I'm not going to work outside the home for a while and you couldn't pay me to go into a club, I'm really lost. I fear matronly clothes and clothes that have to be ironed.  I don't actually want to wear sweats ALL the time.

Every time I want to look decent, I wear a black shirt, jeans or a denim skirt and black boots. It's not that I don't like the outfit, but I've been wearing it for five years. I generally hate the outfits I see in fashion magazines. Where should I look for inspiration?

(Don't ask me why I'm obsessing about this now, when looking like anything but a giant pear is months away.)

Hehehe. You're thinking about it b/c you're feeling frumpy and pregnant. I get the same way.

It is the fabric of the maternity clothes that eats into our brains...

Please don't go cut your hair, okay? That's usually the next step after feeling frumpy.

It's that the GOOD maternity clothes- the ones you see in People that Angelina wears... cost $4,000.

I'm wearing a green maternity shirt and denim shorts. I look like I could be on an episode of one of those Bounty Hunter type shows.

You want inspiration? Go somewhere like McDonald's and let the kids play in the playland (don't worry, we won't turn you into the organic police). Just sit there and watch for about 30 minutes. You'll feel INSTANTLY better about lots of things- the type of mother you are, the clothes you wear....

I think a lot is the way pregnancy alters your shape. You don't really "get" what even flatters anymore, because it's not what you own & it's easier to just go comfort. I'm RIGHT THERE with you.

I always thought that someone should come out with trendy clothes made from jersey (hah! Jersey!) and sweatshirt material. Fashion and comfort. :)

If I ever start the line, I'll let you be my guinea pig. Deal?

Jersey dresses are SOOOO comfortable that you'll feel as though you're wearing a night gown and they look really nice on. They make shirts out of the same material. Umm, anything with an empire waist is flattering for most body types and it's a variation from the tshirts you typically wear. Victoria Secret has pretty nice clothing selection and they have a surprisingly wide range of sizes considering they're models are all bulimic. I personally love JCrew, but it's expensive and I'm not sure if it's your taste. A company that I love that I think you would REALLY get a kick out of: www.lochers.com. Seriously, check it out. I have the "fucking coffee" shirt

As I type this, I'm wearing a blue v-neck t-shirt and black capri pants - my uniform, complete with shirt stain. I am no help.

Becky - But I was feeling frumpy before I got pregnant, that's the sad part.

HRH - That explains a lot.

MamaJ - Teehee - I cut myself bangs the other night. But they are a big improvement, I swear. Sadly, there is no McDonald's with a Playland around here.

AFF - Exellent summation. But how do we fix it?

Wordvixen - If only I had money to invest in your idea, we'd both get rich. :) I would LOVE to be your guinea pig.

Alice - Which t-shirts last longer - Hanes or Target?

Leslie - For me, that would be dressed up. :)
