Ugghs

I understand the appeal of Ugg boots. They are warm and they look like they would be useful in the snow. What I don't understand, however, is why women are now wearing them ALL THE TIME.

New Jersey began experiencing a "heat wave" (hey, it's hitting 60 today) last Saturday. Hubby and I abandoned gave the children to my parents for the afternoon. We walked around a neighboring town, just enjoying each other. Since we were not preoccupied with wiping noses, settling disputes or finding snacks, we noticed a strange phenomenon. Every woman we saw was wearing Uggs. Even though the snow was gone and it was not cold, every woman in the town was wearing Uggs. The six year old with the pig tails? Wearing Uggs. The sixty year old with the gray hair? Wearing Uggs. The teenager girls (inappropriately) wearing shorts? Wearing Uggs. The woman in the skirt? Wearing Uggs. The Ugg spotting went on for AN HOUR. And not one woman (except me) was Ugg-free.

It started to feel like the Twilight Zone. I wondered if there was a town ordinance and what the consequences were for breaking it.

Then we saw THE GIRL. She was somewhere between fourteen and sixteen, walking with two Ugg-booted friends. But she was wearing VANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to hug her. But Hubby had another idea.

As we passed the trio Hubby called out, "Where are your Uggs?"

All the girls mouths dropped open as they walked quickly away from the scary old man and his giggling wife.

She never did answer.

(Hubby is now guilt-ridden, as my mother pointed out the fragile self-esteem of girls that age. But I still think it was funny.)

OHMYFREAKINGGOODNESS! I do not understand the UGG phenomenon either!! It drives me INSANE! Even when it IS really cold out, I still see girls wearing short denim skirts with UGG boots. What's the point?? Meanwhile, I'm in my puffy knee-length ski coat with Land's End boots that come up past my shins, gloves, a hat, earmuffs over the hat, my hood pulled up over my earmuffs and a scarf wrapped several times around my face. And I'm still cold. There is just no looking sexy during the dead of winter.

BUT, have you been enjoying this gorgeous weather! Oh man, I wish I could play hookie! It better stay this nice at least for the weekend too!

Oh no! That girl is probably scraping the bottom of her piggy bank and high-tailing it to the nearest Ugg boot retailer.

Ugg boots aren't a big deal around here. Of course, we aren't exactly on the fashion map out here in cow country.

What gets me are the Uggs in the middle of summer. Dude, in summer I think flip-flops are too much!

I do wear crocs, but only because they are the only shoes that I've ever been able to wear for more than an hour without my feet killing me. I do *not* think they're cute. Ok, actually, I do think the strappy sandal ones are, but you hardly ever see those.

I have clog Uggs. I wear them all the time. I HATE cold feet. They are so comfy I can't help but want to wear them. For you the 60s in Jersey in January is probably unusually warm. We thin blooded Texans think that is COLD weather. So, I break mine out when it's below 70.

Too funny, that poor girl has probably bought a pair by now..lol
I'm from NJ also so I know what your talking about but I must admit I do want a pair for those below zero days. I think they will be super warm but no way would I wear them now with the warm weather we're having.

I don't get it either. Although I've never owned a pair so I guess I'm not qualified to offer an informed opinion...still, they just look ugly to me.

Jenwriter - I hear you. . .can you imagine how those boots must smell after the past couple of days?
Talk about Ugg.

Dory - Fuggly is the perfect word.

Miss Moneymaker- I'm sure someday I'll be freezing to death in my clogs, looking at those boots with envy. But not lately!

Life - I had Ugg slipper/clog things once. That makes me feel qualified. :)

Worker Mommy - You watch it too? I love you too.
